Frequently asked questions

still have QUESTIONS? GET IN TOUCH here
01 What types of surgeries do you support? +

The Recovery Room primarily supports patients recovering from plastic and cosmetic surgery procedures throughout the Bow Valley. Services may also be appropriate for select patients recovering from other day surgery procedures, including general or orthopaedic surgeries, depending on the patient's recovery needs and support environment.

If you are unsure whether this service is the right fit for your procedure or recovery plan, please reach out to discuss your individual needs.

02 Where do visits take place? +

Visits take place in the patient's recovery environment, including private homes, hotels, and Airbnbs throughout Canmore and the Bow Valley.

03 Do I still need a caregiver after surgery? +

Yes. A responsible adult caregiver is still required following surgery, as directed by your surgical clinic. The Recovery Room is designed to provide additional nursing support and reassurance during recovery, not replace overnight caregiving.

04 What happens during a recovery visit? +

Visits may include post-operative assessment, medication guidance based on surgeon instructions, drain and dressing education, compression garment guidance, mobility support, recovery education, and reassurance for both patients and caregivers.

05 When will my visit take place after surgery? +

Most Day of Surgery visits occur approximately 1–2 hours after discharge, depending on surgical timing and discharge delays. Exact timing is confirmed closer to your procedure date.

06 I'm nervous about recovery. Is that normal? +

Absolutely. Many patients feel anxious or overwhelmed during the first few days after surgery, especially once they leave the clinic setting. The Recovery Room was created to help patients and caregivers feel more informed, reassured, and supported during this stage of healing.

07 Will you tell me if something looks concerning? +

Yes. Part of my role is helping patients understand what is commonly expected during recovery and identifying concerns that may require follow-up with the surgical team or emergency care when appropriate.

08 Do you provide overnight nursing care? +

No. Current services do not include overnight nursing care or overnight caregiver replacement.

09 Can I contact you with questions after my visit? +

Questions related to scheduled visits or follow-up coordination are always welcome. Additional recovery guidance outside the booked service may require scheduling a Post-Operative Virtual Follow-Up appointment.

10 What if my surgery date changes? +

Surgical schedules occasionally shift, and one reschedule is permitted with more than 24 hours notice, subject to availability.

11 Do you offer virtual appointments? +

Yes. Post-Operative Virtual Follow-Up appointments are available for current and previous Recovery Room clients seeking additional recovery guidance and reassurance after surgery.

12 Is this service covered by insurance? +

At this time, services are privately paid and are not billed through Alberta Health Care.
